“Have you fallen in love, Will Henry?"

"That's stupid."

"What is? Love, or my question?"

"I don't know."

"You don't know? You've tried that trick once. What do you suppose it will work better the second time?"

"I don't love her. She bothers me."

-Pellinore Warthrop and Will Henry

History[]

Curse of the Wendigo[]

Isle of Blood[]

Appearance[]

"Bursting into our midst in a storm of white lace and verdant velvet, her raven ringlets pulled back from her round race and gathered into a crimson bow, was a young girl, perhaps a year or two older than me, with eyes the same remarkable blue as our host."

Lillian Bates has dark hair and bright blue eyes, the same color as her uncle's. She's often described as very beautiful, although this may be Will Henry's bias showing. When he describes her at the end of the final book, when many years have gone by and the year is 1929, he still comments on how very blue her eyes are.[]

Personality[]

Lilly is one of the most stubborn characters in the series, refusing to change her mind even when she does change her actions. She aspires to be the first female Monstrumologist, and is determined to achieve this dream, despite the many forces acting against her. She's frank and speaks her mind, often insulting Will Henry in The Curse of the Wendigo and The Isle of Blood, and amusing him in The Final descent
